Sony HDMS-S1D Digital Photo

The concept of using a television to display photos has been around since even before the rise of the digital camera and the ubiquity of digital images. Unfortunately, it'€TMs never quite gained the audience manufacturers have always hoped for. Kodak attempted it back in the early 1990'€TMs with its Photo CD players, but they never quite gained widespread acceptance, and successive attempts by other companies haven'€TMt garnered much more success. The limited resolution of a television set was one major limiting factor for viewing anything but snapshots, but high-definition sets are helping to change that. Sony recently released its own digital photo album specifically for HD sets, the HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album,

First in a planned series of cams designed to dumb-down the videoconferencing experience, the LifeCam VX-6000 and VX-3000 both feature built-in noise-canceling microphones, a "Live Call" button which brings up the Buddy Picker window, and software integration with Messenger for camera control and one-click photo uploads to Windows Live Spaces. Consumers looking for better image quality will want to go with the $100 VX-6000, which offers 1.3 megapixel video and stills up to five megapixels (using interpolation, obviously), while the $50 VX-3000 should suffice for those who need only standard VGA resolution. Pre-ordering has already begun on Amazon, but neither of these products will ship until sometime in August.
Wireless Camera Hunter makes spying

Sporting two antennae and a 2.5-inch TFT LCD for maximum peeping enjoyment, the WCH DD9000 is a video Walkman-sized device that scans the airwaves for wireless video transmissions in the 900MHz to 2.52GHz range, and locks in on any usable signals within 500 feet. For $500, it would be nice to get some rechargeable batteries instead of having to use your own AAs with this model, but sometimes you have to sacrifice the little things for the greater good of spying on your friends and neighbors.
Nikon tweaks D2X DSLR with new

Filed under: Digital Cameras Never one to rest on its laurels, Nikon has taken the already highly-rated 12.4 megapixel D2X digital SLR and tweaked several features that are probably very important to professional photographers (but mean little to the rest of us) to come up with the new D2Xs. The major enhancements to this model include an improved 2.5-inch display, longer-life battery, the addition of a black and white mode, Adobe RGB support in all color modes, and better viewfinder performance; other, less exciting improvements are a new menu color scheme, extra 1/3 stop ISO settings, more Custom Curve options, and electronic viewfinder masking in High Speed Crop mode -- we can't even tell you how long we've been waiting for this last option. Making the best even better usually doesn't come cheap, though, but the D2Xs will only set you back a pretty reasonable $4,700 when it's released next month.
